Here’s our second edition of Bite-sized news! And with Christmas nearly upon us this week wasn’t a quiet affair. Fortunately, Menupages is here to pick some highlights you may have missed… 

KNORR is looking for its new Top Student Chef

NO REPRO FEE. Pictured at the launch of the 17th annual Knorr Student Chef of the Year competition is the new judging panel of (l-r) Catherine Fulvio, Ballyknocken House and Cookery School, Mark McCarthy, Unilever Food Solutions, and Pat Zaidan, chef lecturer at Dublin Institute of Technology, Cathal Brugha Street. To mark the European Year Against Food Waste in 2014, this year’s competition theme is ‘Wise up on Waste’ and will challenge students to take a traditional dish and give it a modern twist using sustainably-sourced ingredients and limiting the amount of food waste generated. The year’s top prize is an amazing trip to Italy where the winning student will enjoy an incredible dining experience at the three-starred Michelin restaurant Osteria Francescana in Modena, voted the number three best restaurant in the world. The winner will also be taken on a bespoke culinary tour to further their appreciation of Italian cuisine. Knorr will no longer be synonymous with Marco Pierre White’s stock cubes! Very concerned about the future of food in the country, the Unilever Food Solutions appealed all the talented Young Chef of Ireland to participate to a competition that will award the Top Student Chef 2016. The Topic of the year promises to be exciting: “The Future of Irish Cuisine”.


 

Water: The new liquor

As for whiskey or beer, coffee is a product very appreciated by all type of people and have numerous connoisseurs. To make a good Coffee, you need good coffee first… And water. That’s why, to show the importance of that last ingredient in the coffee making, the 3fe have launched a ‘Water Tasting Menu’, including a €3.50 Water Set. A mouth-watering (literally) experience!

A few days ago, the photo above has provoked strong reactions on the web. The reason is called Mancan, a brand that offers to men too proud to drink in a real glass the possibility to delight the nectar in a can. Innovators will love, purists not so much less!

Wexford Street has a new place and it looks amazing!

Another welcome surprise for Dublin’s bar scene. Regularly, new places open their doors, trying to be more innovative to get a foothold in this difficult market. The Jar is the ‘real-deal’. Located in Wexford Street at the old Solas spot, this cozy designed bar can claim to offer a wide selection of beers on tap and Pizza Bases. Go there!
