Enjoying Christmas at home but still curious about what’s happening in the outside world? We have you covered with a special Christmas Bite Sized news of the week!

Free beer on New Year’s eve

All rights reserved

Beer lovers generally don’t need a reason to visit the Galway Bay Brewery bars around Dublin. However, this New Years eve, there is a good reason for everybody to pop in for a visit. Galway Bay is offering a “Crap Beer Amnesty” where they will swap any crap unopened beer for one of their own selected beers free of charge.

You are of course limited to one per person, but it’s interesting to know that there are 7 Galway Bay bars in Dublin, with 5 of them being around the city centre. Make of that what you will.

Latest Netflix show to binge watch

Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, and the latest must watch show from Netflix is a perfect example of that. “Making a Murderer” is a real life crime thriller, filmed over 10 years, that follows a DNA exoneree who, while exposing police corruption, becomes a suspect in a grisly new crime.

Each episode will leave you on the edge of your seat, making you question everything you hear and see. Enjoy it over the Christmas break as everybody will be talking about in 2016.

Another craft brewery has cashed out

AB InBev, the beer company that is responsible for Budweiser, Corona and Stella Artois, has bought Camden Town Brewery, one of the biggest breweries in the United Kingdom. You’ve seen their beer around craft beer pubs and off-licenses in Dublin, especially their “Hells Lager”, which was a relatively safe choice for beer novices.

What does this really mean? Expect to see quality diminish and their beers being exported to other markets. With another craft brewery bought out, we are likely to see this happen on our shores sooner rather than later.

World’s best burger

GQ magazine has decided where the best burger in the world is. There’s no surprise that it comes from New York, what may surprise you is that it is a vegetarian burger. The “Superiority Burger” comes from Chef Brooks Headley, who we have discussed before in regards to his peculiar dessert combinations.

The burger consists of a potato bun, cheese, lettuce, slow roasted plum tomatoes, brown honey mustard and pickles. The full recipe is a closely guarded secret, so burger places here will have to do a lot of trial and error to make their own version.

If you’re a vegetarian who was getting sick of eating Linda McCartney veggie burgers, there is still hope!

A Champagne Cheers!

With New Year’s approaching it’s time to polish those champagne flutes. We all traditionally have a glass of bubbly with loved ones, but now it seems we should be drinking a lot more of it! New research says that consuming three glasses of champagne every day helps prevent the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s. The champagne lovers academics who conducted the study are hoping to move onto trials involving pensioners.

Menupages wishes you a Happy Christmas and New Year, raise that champagne flute, and toast “To your health”!
