Savour Kilkenny, one of Ireland’s favourite food festivals, will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary with 3 days of foodie workshops, appearances by celebrity chefs, competitions and of course, mountains of fantastic food. Set against the backdrop of the stunning Medieval city of Kilkenny, expect a jam-packed line up of household names, including Ballymaloe’s Darina Allen, fashionista-cum-foodie Rosanna Davison and comedian Jason Byrne, who will be hosting “Cocktails & Comedy”.
As well as showcasing home grown produce, the festivals “Global Kitchen” will offer visitors the opportunity to sample cuisine from the four corners of the globe: Middle Eastern, Mexican, Indian, Iranian and even Balkan and Sudanese. Local producers will be on hand to give advice on bee-keeping, pig farming, butter-making, and even on how to care for that Alpaca you were thinking of adopting. To keep the little ‘uns entertained, a number of kid friendly events will be running, including screenings of foodie flicks such as Ratatouille and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Once the movie is finished, encourage their competitive and creative side through the Junior Masterchef 2016 competition, while you get on the Kilkenny Whiskey Trail, and sample a variety of whiskeys while learning about the history of distilling in Kilkenny. Once you have sipped to your hearts content, end the evening at one of the many partner events dotted around the city, such as the Harpers Restaurant “Sip, Savour & Jazz” night or enjoy a taste of 1916 at Lyrath Estates “Dinner Through The Decades 1916-2016”. Relish a seven course evening meal embracing both modern and classic elements, with a side of fine wine and historical references.
The Savour Kilkenny Festival Food runs from the 28th to the 31st October, and while most events are free, a limited number are paid, ticketed events. See www.savourkilkenny.com for further information.
