Gerry Chawke’s Bar of Tipperary goes on the market today after 50 years in business

An iconic bar to be placed the market after 50 years in business, Gerry Chawke’s bar in county Tipperary erected their ‘for sale’ signs this morning after owner Gerry Chawke and his wife Anne Carew Chawke made the difficult decision to step down after almost five decades of service bringing with it the end of an era.

The couple purchased the bar in 1968 and in their 50 years of service became known as a ‘must stop watering hole’ for visitors locally and beyond. The pub became a known sports bar as the owner Gerry Chawke admits “I’m totally obsessed with all sports, essentially anything that moves”. The property is steeped in sporting memorabilia and the proprietor, as Gerry always made sure his business reflected his love of all things sport.

Gerry confessed it was a difficult decision to step down after so many years, but thought that now was the right time to bow out gracefully at the tender age of 72. “it’s a really special bar with a wonderful and loyal patronage” Gerry states, “Truth be told, I’m already looking forward raising a glass with my customers on the other side of the counter while celebrating retirement!”. A cheerful end to phenomenal chapter of their lives for Gerry and Anne Chawke.
